Abstract

Islamic religious education in formal educational institutions has a crucial role in stemming the flow of radicalism and extremism. The main goal of Islamic religious education is to instill a moderate understanding of religion (wasathiyyah). In this way, it is hoped that students can develop social intelligence. In public schools, the challenge of implementing Wasathiyyah Islamic values is definitely different from religious-based schools. This study wants to find out how SMK NU 1 Karanggeneng Lamongan teaches Islam in a moderate and tolerant manner, as well as what challenges are faced in the process.

This study aims to analyze the role of PAI teachers in instilling Wasathiyyah Islamic values, analyze the values of Wasathiyyah Islamic values and analyze the supporting and inhibiting factors for the implementation of Wasathiyyah Islamic values at SMKNU 1 Karanggeneng Simo Sungelebak Lamongan. The research method used is field research with a qualitative descriptive analysis approach with primary and secondary sources. The data collection is by observation, interviews, documentation and other supporting data related to the object of the research.

SMK NU 1 Karanggeneng has succeeded in implementing wasathiyyah Islamic values quite well and in accordance with the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education number 7272 of 2019 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Religious Moderation in Islamic Education. This school can be an example of how Islamic Religious Education can be a means to form a moderate and good young generation. However, there are still several challenges that need to be overcome, such as the development of more standard, intense and measurable methods as well as strategic efforts to effectively ward off the negative influence of social media.
